● Papers Needed for a Smooth Process
○ Marriage certificate (ORIGINAL)
○ Birth certificate (ORIGINAL)
○ Passport
○ Electric bill if homeowner (current)
○ Legal name of both parents (sometimes on birth certificate)
● Process of Reporting Death
○ Contact experienced bilingual/bicultural interpreter to walk you through the process

○ Contact doctor to: declare death, report a ‘natural’ death, start death certificate
procedure
■ Dr Martha: Farmacia 351-7205, hm 351-5182
■ Centro de Salud (Clinic): 351-5117
○ Contact Delagado (Mayor): Delgado Office 351-5048
■ Issues death certificate in conjunction with Doctor
■ Gives permission to move body
● Funeral Home ⇆ Family
Funeral Home
○ Responsible for transporting deceased (most likely Cihautlan)
○ Helps family decide on burial/cremation
■ transport of corpse across country borders is very involved & expensive process
○ Delivers ashes to family
Family:
○ goes to funeral home with deceased
○ Gives permission to transport for cremation (Colima is closest crematorium)
○ Decides how to dispose of ashes
**Must Have Survivor Needs:
User names, Passwords and PINS of deceased!
Access to cash (debit card/other)
Be careful about WHEN to inform third parties
(prevent freezing of assets)
**Suspicious/Accidental deaths become complicated: investigations & autopsy
