Highlights for the children in the community were the annual art contests where youth in the 3 local schools participated, scholarship students participation as volunteers, and the children’s art exhibition in the Ejido which displayed art from 4 year olds to 15 year olds in a variety of mediums. Special thanks to our local Mexican contingency who contributed their time, efforts and artistry for this Ejido exhibit, including Alberto, Lorena, Heidy, Olga and Gardenia, along with Ron, Stephanie, Linda K, Pam, and others.
The Art Walk council has generously helped to fund our free English and Arts camp for Mexican children over several years, which is a 3-week program held every summer where 30 local youngsters participate.
The art course currently underway, co-sponsored by LCF and the Art Walk, has perhaps been the most influential artistic event at LCF. This program, coordinated by Ron Stock, includes instruction over 10-weeks for LCF scholarship students, and culminates with a special exhibition and sale of their work. Student artists get to learn the responsibilities of being a working artist, including creating their work, framing it, selling it, and even keeping profits. This year’s student art show will take place Saturday, February 25, from 5pm to 7pm on the LCF grounds, located directly behind the pre-school. Special thanks to this year’s American and Canadian art instructor volunteers, including Annie, Jane, Rennie, Linda May and of course Ron, along with Maria, Bernard, Alberto and Lisa who have served as translators.
New developments are underway, as well, with the Dave Sullins memorial art fund!
Finally, our board of directors would like to thank the Art Walk Council along with Art Walk Volunteers, for the donation we received of $21,000 pesos, which will be earmarked for art programs administered through the Foundation.
We look forward to further collaboration, in whatever shape this may take, working together to offer art education to youth of La Manz.
