Many thanks to EWB engineers: Dennis Kalson, (from LaManzanilla), Professor Margaret Lang and husband Steve, Tai Marbet and wife Bailey, Chuck Swanson, Jeff Mosbacher, Malia Gonzales, Kelly Rodman, Abe Aufdermauer and Emily Higbee. This team worked hard from Monday to Friday taking data back home to Arcata, California to prepare their formal report. We learned about a lot of things we can do, simply, to make our system better. 1) We have 2 volunteers who will fix the check valve if it is an easy fix. 2) We will make an aluminum measuring stick, so we can gauge flow rates. 3) They said we have a GOOD system and it is qualified to serve this community when we all hook up. In fact they are strongly suggesting that we do hook up, so the un-covered laterals can be taken care of. There is a hook up fee to be paid and a cost for each house connecting to the street. The cost depends on the outflow pipe located in every different home. 4) The strong 4” pipe going out to the treatment plant is sized correctly and there are a few ways we can help the water to leave the pump house faster, without flowing into the crocodile lagoon, during rainy season. 5) If all goes well, a small group of engineers will be back around June or July to take a smoke test and further study, during the rainy season. The engineers said they had a good time and especially liked talking to all the people of laManzanilla.
Hola, Mary Jo. It was wonderful to have the EWBs here. What I understood is that if we all connect (the ones on the present system) then our system is sealed. Then rain water and water from a raising water table can't get into the system. Did I get this right? If so, how do we get all the system's residents connected and I mean money wise as not everyone can afford the connection fee plus the materials and labor needed to connect.
I have some pesos for you. Is La Huerta President still matching donated funds or am I too late? And be aware that Canedo sometimes backs away from the promises he makes. I hope it doesn't happen this time.
Muchisimas gracias for a great job and Viva Maria Jose! Cruz
