The Huichol Culture may be 4000 years old. It has been preserved by a quiet and strong people in the Sierra Madre Mountains of north-central Mexico. Tomorrow evening, a Shaman from this culture will be visiting Casa Luz and offering a newly released film about the Huichol people, their vision and message. Julio Parra Parra will be present to answer questions afterwards. The film itself is a masterpiece of animation. It was accomplished over many years by donated time and resoureces. It is like an animated Huichol yarn painting - quite beautiful and engaging. The name of the film: "Takutsi Nakawe" is the name for Grandmother Rain, the Creater of the Universe in the Huichol Cosmology.

I just found out that this film is 15 minutes running time. It is whole and complete in itself, and is the beginning of a larger documentary about the Huichol people. Because of this and because Julio has come all the way from the Sierra Madre to present it we will be talking about each of the major characters in this film, their significance in Huichol cosmology, the metaphorical meanings, similarities to other cosmoligies etc. Julio will speak to us and I will translate. Then we will watch the film again. It is so rich and beautiful you will want to see it again, and after our discussion it will have much more meaning. All proceeds go the the continued work on this documentary. Thank you for coming and participating in this important work.
