January 2017 * Thank You for the generous donations from members of our community: Tim Edwards, Howie Ross, Dhyana Bartkow, Casa de los Mangos, Mike Harms, Eileen Zach, Judith Olson, Maedb Pearson, Don Nusom, Alicia Rimenez, Grant and Lee, Carolyn Howard, Dan and Jeanne Crosby, Cruz, Kay and Tolling, anonymous donations from the bookstore and from the January 10th fiesta in the jardin. If I missed anyone, let me know!
* Thank you to Rhonda and John and Hotel Caiman who voluntered their accomodations to house the Engineers while they were here; to restaurants Quinta Valentina, Bahia Azul, La Playa, El Cato and the Aztec who fed the Engineers for their stay; to the Ejido and Gerardo for providing the Crocodile walk and the lagoon boat tour.
* If we didn’t use your donation money for anything else, we would have enough to pay our worker, Ricardo (Teco) for 1 whole year.
* We DO need a new platform, (the old one is rusting apart) where our worker stands to clean the mud.
* We are negotiating with LaHuerta to complete their job and make BOTH pumps automatic. They are missing a “starter”.
* New skimmers are being made because the old one rotted: (volunteer, no cost).
* The check valve has been temporarily repaired by 2 volunteers: Thank you to Cleve and Tom. They are willing to re-vamp the valves and make it a permanent fix, but the state water department needs to come to dis-assemble the pump from the valves, so they can take them away to be redone.
* I am hoping to get all ducks lined up in a row, so that I can retire my position as “one who pays attention to the sewer”. I’m holding March 28, 2017 as my day of retirement. Anybody else like to step in, it would be a pleasure to show you the ropes.
or in the donation box in the bookstore or in the town credit union.
* Here is the Web site for the Engineers Without Borders, if you are interested to see what they have done in California. http://www2.humboldt.edu/arcatamarsh/
