That was close...
We were in Melaque yesterday when we received a call from our friend Jane that a fire was burning up the hill towards our house. By the time we arrived the fire was intense, it was very close, and was heading directly towards our house. But there were already people on our wall with hoses wetting down the brush in advance of the fire. Some were friends, some were neighbours, and some we didn't know. And they all stood on our wall with their hoses, in the smoke and ash, with bandanas and stinging eyes. With help from the Melaque fire brigade and more friends with machetes and shovels they managed to steer the fire away from the house as it continued up the hill.
As the adrenalin subsided and we continued to deal with hot spots I realized, as these good samaritans began leaving, asking for nothing but a glass of water, that we owed yet another debt of gratitude to the generosity and humanity of Mexico, and to the people of La Manzanilla specifically.
We don't know how to thank all of those who came to our aid. Many won't see this post. Hopefully over time we'll be able to say thanks in person.
A special thank you to Morgon for responding by continuing to pump water to our lower cistern. Had we run out of water the result could have been much different.
Thank you again to everyone.

What a great story- brought a tear to my eye. Wish I could have been there to help too. Glad it all worked out, whew!
