Three meetings have been held so far, most recently with the local Primaria and Kinder school parents and staff to brainstorm about a recycling program and collection site, fun events and ways to educate students and their families about human effects on our ecosystem.
We are casting a wide net to include all elements of the interconnected solid waste picture – stores, food service and other businesses, schools, and households. Smaller task forces and subcommittees are forming to focus on each of these producers as well as tackling hazardous waste disposal, recycling, beach and street litter, education and outreach.
We have already collected and organized a surprising amount of information about what is already happening in town, and the committee is reaching out to partner with local government and other agencies to coordinate efforts and connect the dots.
Our goal is to create a shining example in this small village on the Costa Alegre of a community that truly values and protects its astonishing biodiversity, and promotes a culture of respect and wise management – a real “green” community!
We are inviting you, both visitors and longer term residents, to join us in getting the work done. If you would like more information or to get involved, please contact us here or at the white envelope.
Respectfully,
The “green matters committee”
