Actually, there are two. One is being fixed and is stuck in Guadalajara in the hands of a mechanic that is moving in Mexico-time plus, is not finding necessary used parts and is possibly on vacation to boot.
The good news is that our retrofitted van 'ambulance' has not stopped providing service along with our LM Emergency Volunteer Crew.
In this month alone:
-One of our volunteers, Alejandro, helped save a couple from drowning in Boca with a life jacket and an inner tube. The couple got caught in an ocean current.
-A 17 year-old was transported in our 'ambulance' to Cihuatlan after suffering a motorcycle accident here in LM's main street. His injuries were extensive and life threatening.
-Per a special request from the IMSS Clinc, the Crew transported a patient from Manzanillo to Rebalsito in the 'ambulance'. The patient could not be transported by car.
-Crew provided traffic safety at recent children's Dia De La Revolucion event at the Jardin. The 'ambulance' was in attendance.
-That night the Crew helped a person who fainted at a local restaurant.
Our volunteers not only assist accident victims and attend medical emergencies but also serve as a surveillance crew before, during, and after disasters. They report area conditions to state and county authorities. In September, our crew received notice and participated in a tsunami alert after the earthquake in Oaxaca.
So you see that our emergency crew and 'ambulance' are active and performing. The number is 315 112 4048.
A present problem is that our young English speaker is at the University getting his Emergency Medical Technition Certification. Be warned that if you don't speak some Spanish you may have difficulty communicating with some of our crew. We'll work on this and report on ways of reaching other available emergency care. Cruz
