To me, Larry, it's a question of accepting things as they are and not as I would have them to be. Many of the criticisms you express directly relate to economic and societal factors. If your only vehicle is an old pick up truck and you need or want to take your family somewhere, people are going to ride in the back. If that same truck is unsafe, who do you suggest pay for making it safer? People are going to do what they have to do to get by.
Of course, defensive driving is a must down here but it's wise to do so in the States, as well. But, then again, I may be somewhat more tolerant of the "road culture" as some accuse me of "driving like a Mexican", to which I take no offense. 165
