So we are looking for a person, or a small team, who would be willing to receive emergency calls, and then call and dispatch the appropriate responder - the police, voluntary ambulance, local doctor, etc.
The volunteer would be willing to keep the phone with them at all times, (charged of course), and take occasional calls even in the early morning hours (or whenever an emergency arises.)
They would be making a big contribution to this community, without having to do much more than that.
The ambulance fund will buy the phone and the 'minutes'. The phone number will stay the same, no matter who takes over the voluntary position.
Not everyone here is bilingual (neither visitors nor responders), and the various emergency services can be inconsistent, so it's best if one person learns all this, and becomes the go-to person for emergencies.
Who would be willing to take on this job? We are looking for a reliable, bilingual (Spanish/English) person who is here most of the winter. If more than one person is interested, they can spell each other off. We will provide training re how to decide 'who to call' in case of emergency.
Please send questions about this - or volunteer - with an email to carol@carollopez.com.
