If anyone is interested in details of a hip replacement done in Guadalahara in October, 2016, I can share my experience. | ------------------------Re: cost of surgery in mexico

Hello JoAnna. We would be interested in hearing about your experience. My husband is slowly moving through the system in BC while his pain and increases and mobility decreases. La Manz warmth water offers some reprieve. | ------------------------Re: cost of surgery in mexico

In Sept of 2016, I had three vertebrae fused with titanium rods in my back. This was done in Colima. The total cost of all items, including MRI, pre-op care, hospital, surgery, post-op, etc, came to less than $12,000 USD. I have Kaiser in the states, but the soonest they would do surgery was five months later. I was immobile, popping opioids due to pain, etc. Fortunately I had the resources to have the surgery in Mexico. I've had four other back surgeries in the US. The hospital, staff, surgeons and care equaled or exceeded the care in the US. I won't hesitate to have future care here as needed. | ------------------------Re: cost of surgery in mexico

In canada we have Medicare. So no problem. But for some elective surgery one might have to wait. I thought this would be interesting for our US friends.

IF you can wait!!!!!!! I was told a 12-18 month wait for hip #1; then I'd go back to the bottom of the list and wait another 12-18 months for #2. That's why I chose Guadalahara for #1. My reasoning, as anyone knows who is in need of this kind of surgery: as pain increases and mobility decreases, there is less strength and muscle mass remaining with which to do the necessary rehab. I was back teaching yoga six months after #2 (my Canadian hip, as I call it). I'd not been able to teach for two years. Yes, it meant ransacking my pitifully small RRSP fund, but I believe my recovery was quicker and more complete because I didn't wait out those 2-3 years. | ------------------------
