COLIMANOTICIAS Colima, Col. feb 5- The General Director of the National Water Commission (Conagua), Roberto Ramírez de la Parra, ruled out that water will be privatized.
He said there are voices that indicate that the federal government is preparing a reform to the law.
"It is totally false, we are not preparing any reform, nor has this federal administration presented any initiative, and if there was an initiative by the Legislative that tried to change the administration of water, the first to oppose it would be us."
On the other hand, he argued that because the government of Jalisco has a legal problem, the construction of the El Naranjo dam has been stopped.
[The dam is on the Rio Marabasco, 20 kilometers upstream from Cihuatlan. The river flows into the Barra de Navidad Laguna. No environmental study was done to see what effect the dam would have on the laguna or fish spawning there -JA]
Its construction began formally 10 years ago; however, it lasted only 1 year. At the moment it is at 45 percent.
With this dam, it is intended to improve the distribution of water in Colima and Jalisco.
Ramírez de la Parra said he hopes that, soon, the government of the state of Jalisco will reach an agreement with the company that is building it so that this important work that will benefit both states can continue.
