A friend and I joined to help getting funds for kindergarden. Schools ask me to ask for help "because I speak english", they say, and I do it gladly. This is the text prepared by Mr. Lindsay (since my english level is not that good). Thank you for reading: ___________________________________ Kindergarten Count down Fundraiser Hurricane Patricia caused an amazing amount of damage to the community of La Manzanilla and the surrounding area back in October 2015.. We are all so thankful for the support that we received both locally and from our friends and visitors who live in other countries, yet still care about our community. In the immediate aftermath of the Hurricane a group of local residents was formed to assist in dealing with the disaster. They worked incredibly hard and were successful in helping many residents and the community at large. They helped make sure the funds donated went to support the community in many ways. Over time that group of volunteers were able to go back to their regular work and we are all thankful for their leadership during that time. However there was still work to be done and a smaller group has carried on with that process. Additional funds were raised and more assistance was given. That group is now working on its final restoration project from the hurricane here in La Manzanilla. And yes your support is needed. This project involves the Kindergarten outdoor playing area and we have called the project The Kindergarten Countdown The Kindergarten Countdown project has three areas of focus. 1. The installation of a second emergency access/exit gate to the kindergarten compound for safety reasons. At present there is only one way in or out. Estimated cost is $12,000 pesos. 2. Playground accessories. All items in the playground were damaged and need repair and or replacement. Estimated costs are $80,000 pesos. 3. A new roof is needed for protection from the sun and rain in the outside play area. The previous structure was completely destroyed in the Hurricane. There were enough funds to rebuild the structure but not the materials to cover the large roof area. The new roof will cost roughly $120,000 pesos installed.. While all three items are important the priory will go to the roofing and the emergency exit. The project has been approved by the School and parent group. Local fundraising through the parents group is underway and they need our help.. Paul Zuniga, local resident, who has been involved in the rebuilding since the Hurricane happened will be in charge of coordination and completion of all of the work. This is a great opportunity to support the kindergarten and the 74 attending students. Funds can be donated as follows: Locally: The Helping Hands Book Store Internationally: A two signature account has been set up through Banamex in Malque by the Kindergarten parent group specifically for this project. This fund raising account in under the name of Dulce Olivia Zacarias Torres. The Bocce Ball Committee had a meeting with the director of the school, Sara Brambia and a parent representative last week. During the meeting the committee committed to paying for the emergency exit, we are just waiting to hear back as to when construction will start.
