Advice on bus from Puerta Vallarta
Posted by David Shackleton & on December 29, 2015, 9:13 am
Hi - our plane is due in Puerta Vallarta just after noon. We'd appreciate any advice about how to take a bus that will drop us at the cruzero (a friend told me that Primera Plus won't allow us to get out - part of their insurance, etc...but others will. On line I couldn't find any other scheduled buses making the late afternoon trip south. It would be nice to avoid that extra hour and the taxi fare back from Melaque. Thank you in advance David & Judy

after a six hour ride from PV on the 2nd class bus (both toilets overflowing)and as many stops as you can imagine, take Primera Plus for sure!!! it is worth the cab ride from Melaque... PS. the bus station is across the road from the aeropuerto.. | ------------------------Re: Advice on bus from Puerta Vallarta

Thanks for this advice - so the Primera plus bus station is just across from the airport? All info I'd got said we had to take a taxi to it b/c it was a few km's away Best David | ------------------------Re: Advice on bus from Puerta Vallarta

When you are exiting the PV airport, use the pedestrian overpass to get across the street. At street level hail a taxi to take you to the bus station which is a few km distant. It will be pointing in the correct direction. The taxis across the street are much cheaper than 'airport taxis' which will charge about 200 pesos for that zone. Ask the price before getting in, so you know what the price will be. Depending on how close you arrive vs departure of bus, you may want to take a taxi downtown (don't cross overpass) and catch it there. Have used the second class busses numerous times and found them to be fine. You sometimes get loud spanish movies and a few extra short stops along the way, but more choices of departure times and the opportunity to get off at the crucero for La Manzanilla (tell the driver!). However, if you are unable to catch a ride (hitchhike) into town, you may enjoy the 2 km walk into town! A taxi back from Melaque works well, but you will be backtracking about 20 minutes. So many choices!! | ------------------------Re: Advice on bus from Puerta Vallarta

Thanks Rob - most useful. We'll probably opt for the first class bus and take our chances with the taxi back from Malaque at the time we'll be arriving Cheers David | ------------------------Re: Advice on bus from Puerta Vallarta

One year we were able to get the bus driver to drop us at the entrance to La Manzanilla for some dinero. We stood waiting, in the tall grass by the highway. We'd arranged to have a cab pick us up but couldn't be exact on the time. It turned out he'd been and gone. A young man was standing at the bus stop across the street, and he kindly used his cell to call the taxi (I had the phone number in my wallet.) The taxi came and we were home, but without everything working out, it would have been a long walk with 3 suitcases into La Manzanilla. If I had to do that trip again, I'd get a taxi in Melaque. For what it's worth. Vicki | ------------------------Re: Advice on bus from Puerta Vallarta

some schedules: first class. Buses from Puerto Vallarta to Melaque Flecha Amarilla Counter - Primera Plus (First Class Service) 7:45 am - Express, no stop in Tomatlán. 12:15 pm - south to Melaque and Barra, then on to La Huerta and Autlán, NOT Express, this bus stops in Tomatlán. Pacifico/Cihuatlán Counter - Cihuatlán Plus (First Class Service) 4:00 pm, 11:30 pm - The 4:00 pm is an express, no stop in Tomatlán. if you you arrive in PV around noon, 1pm. after customs.....you will have to take the pacifico/cihuatlan at 4pm. I recommend after customs , on the exit, do not take airport taxis. go out , walk left around corner, take the walking overpass , then go the restaurant right at the bottom and try a marlin burrito....... then hop on taxi right to bus station(called Terminal or "camionera"central). I have had times where i could convince drivers to stop at la manzanilla crucero other times not. Last time , driver said no at the beginning then after he dropped people at several other stops he said ok but we have to be fast, because we also had luggage under.of course a propina was given. When i wanted to be sure took the second class bus .......not as comfortable but not bad. Primera Plus is the best but you will miss it with your arrival time. | ------------------------Re: Advice on bus from Puerta Vallarta

Charley - many thanks. Strange that on the Primera Plus web site it says there are 3 buses on the 4th - the last one at 3.45pm. Anyway I guess we'll find out when we get to the bus station! Thank you also for the other advice - most useful. Best David & Judy | ------------------------Re: Advice on bus from Puerta Vallarta
