The Story Slam will be held on Thursday, January 21st at Casa Luz. 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Here are the guidelines: 10+ storyteller's names will be drawn from a hat. Each storyteller has 5 minutes plus a 30 second grace period. After five and a half minutes they will begin to be penalized by the official timekeeper. Five judges will be randomly chosen from the audience. Each judge will have a paper tablet and marker and judge the storyteller on content and presentation. Just like in diving, the top and bottom scores will be thrown out. The story should be true, and the theme is "The Unusual", but no-one takes truth or theme very seriously. In fact, very few people take any of this very seriously. When the worldwide Poetry Slam Movement started in Chicago in the early 80's, first place won a box of macaroni. The last Story Slam I attended, first place won $150. We will be somewhere in between, with 5 places. The tradition has been that storytellers cannot use any notes. We are bending that rule. You can read from notes, but the judges will be instructed to take that into consideration. At present, we have eight confirmed storytellers and about three or four more on the fence. Here's your chance! Thanks, Ron
