Daniel, all of those considerations are thought provoking. Thanks for doing that research. The risks during, after and much after surgery are all risky. It is a really tough life for pets in Mexico. Nube, the first dog of the Figaro fundraiser was a pregnant young lab living on the street near the highway. The odds were not good for her if left with 10 puppies. I worried of her getting run over. Now she is living a great life with a family who adore her on an island with no cars near Sechelt. Here is another reason for the males to get done: a sweet chihuahua, Nino, was stolen in Melaque as he was such a sweet little stud. I saw him in Melaque, the family got him back and asked to have him neutered and then no one would steal him. It would be a massive project to get to the point where all the dogs had vasectomies. Especially Mexico! Not my project! Not to be a naysayer though. There are no roaming dogs where I live. Lots of roaming deer! Someone has suggested it for the raccoon population here. They can live out their lives raiding orchards but no more baby apple eaters please!
