Tonight – February 16, 2017 – in the Western Hemisphere, Venus reaches its greatest illuminated extent, at which juncture Venus is at or near its greatest brilliancy in Earth’s evening sky.
While we're at it (and the moon is later) Mars is visible too. The sky needs to be darker, then look three fingers above Venus and a little to the left ... it does actually look "red."373
