Yes, hiring a driver for that many people seems like the best option, but the bus is only a little over four hours, not seven. (And then you would need to backtrack from Melaque to La Manz.) The car rental/cab from Manzanillo airport would be the most time-consuming and expensive, not to mention that you would then be traveling after dark.
