Learn what the hype is all about! The rapid expansion of the high-end tequila category and the growing popularity of mezcal have created world-wide hype around agave based spirits. And raised lots of questions about what’s traditional, what’s authentic and what the differences are.
Every week, Laura Lynch and Miguel Huerta will host Agave Advice with rotating themes covering Tequila, Mezcal, and Agave Distillates such as Tuxca, Raicilla, and whatever other incredible treasures we can find to share.
Maximum of 8 guests per tasting. Please email Laura to reserve your space! colablamanz@gmail.com (hit the white envelope next to her name at the top of this post)
Event includes: Tasting of 4 different tequilas, appetizers, and a minimum of 2 hours of agave education with plenty of time to discuss and learn!
Miguel learned about the love of agave in his previous work as the Development Coordinator for the Tequila Interchange Project and later as Sales Manager for Siembra Spirits. He has developed a deep passion for learning and sharing all about the cultural roots of agave distillates.

Tuesday March 6 5pm The World of Remote Agave Distillates
Join us as we share some of the most interesting agave spirits we can find and some of our personal favorites. This guided tasting event will explore traditional spirits in Mexico that are neither Tequila or Mezcal. We will taste agave distillates that have close ties to remote communities in Mezcal that have been produced for generations. We will taste the diversity of ancestral production practices and agave varieties used to craft spirits such as Tuxca, Raicilla and spirits referred to as mezcal that are produced outside of the DOM of Mezcal.
Thursday March 8 5pm The Terroir of Tequila
Throughout all tastings, will discuss all things agave from folklore, archaeological discoveries, biodiversity, and sustainability concerns. We will identify some of the social and environmental justice issues related to the industrialization of tequila as well as the regulatory developments with both Tequila and Mezcal and their impact on the small, ancestral production of mezcales (little m) that do not fit either regulatory category.
