I would normally not be eager to share medical war stories, in this case, I will. A month ago I had a second cardiac event which required finding a cardiocare centre and a cardiologist. With a little searching on the web, I was directed to Hospital Echauri in Manzanillo. There I was introduced to Dr. Erick Zaragoza, Cardiologist. What transpired over the next four days was not worse than that at Vancouver Island best center, it was only done faster and without much waiting. My care included the normal: ECG, ultra sound, lab work and trip to Colima, a through check of my ICD (medtronics) and a reset of its daily alarm reminding me that an event had taken place.
Conclusion, excellent medical care is alive and well in Mexico and for anyone who thinks they might ever need it, spend a few minutes and do some research as to where the hospitals or clinics are and what is available.
The best part, not with standing that I was given a clean bill of health in the end, the total cost was less than $500 CAD, well below my insurance deductible.
I found the team of doctors excellent, all spoke very good english and were very very professional. I could not has asked for more, now I can fly home knowing that LM is not so isolated as not to have such a great resource just down the road.
