Multitude of Thank You’s to the many donations to help keep our sewer system clean and working. Thank You to: Lee and Grant; Jim Russel and Nancy Knepler; Carol Lopez’ generous raffle fund; David and Debra Kasprick; Joanne Kipp; Cleve and Susan Davenport; Larry and Nancy Chamberlain; Debbie Wulze; Judith Olson and Suzanne Rodriguez from PayPal; the Spoken Word Artist Charity event; the Bookstore donation box; Eco Tours donation box; many deposits in the Caja Popular in the Carcamo account # 16538; anonymous donations to match the first anonymous donation of 500 pesos; and many persons who handed me money “on the fly” where I didn’t get a chance to write down names. Thank You! We have almost enough $ to cover cleaning for the year.
ACTIVITIES since February 7, when about 35 of us stood solidly together for a picture holding our noses in front of the carcamo. The original petitions (with 227 signatures which declared mas o minus “We don’t like the smell and it is urgent to fix this”) were given to Ismael, Director of Water and Sewer, LaHuerta, when he came to fix the floats a few days later. Since then we have had many visits from LaHuerta and the state water dept. They have replaced about 150 ft of damaged sewer pipe under the Hwy 200 bridge with proper pipe and connections. They replaced the ultimate rusted and corroded pipe, which flows into the treatment plant in Los ingeños. They have sent the vacuum truck to do the regular maintenance of sewer clean-out in town and in the carcamo. There are future plans to put in a new 6” pipe going out to Los Ingeños. Hopefully keeping the 4” pipe for use in rainy and heavy tourist season. These plans along with many more are dependent on the Ejido voting to give responsibility for water and sewer to the Municipal govt., so we can access funds from the state and federal government.
We are still in need of funds to complete the year’s work. Please donate if you use a bathroom at any time in LaManzanilla. . . . . .
1) Can make a deposit in the Caja Popular Account # 16538 “The Carcamo Account” 2) Pay Pal is a really good way to donate also!
Yesterday at the market I was talking with Lupe, Morgan's wife and she told me there was a HUGE LIST OF GRINGOS WHO HAVE NOT PAID THEIR WATER BILL!! I have to say I was quite shocked and find it hard to believe that anyone in this town who comes here ad enjoys all it has to offer would not even have the consideration to contribute to the water...ESPECIALLY now when we are having to have repairs Etc. The water is for EVERYONE....come on people...you know who you are...please get your butts in and pay your water bills....lets get everyone doing their fair share and we will not have these kinds of problems in the future.
Mary Jo -I will be stopping off in La Manz briefly -is the account number at the Caja still valid? And thanks, I was in La Manz in July and the sewer "problem" seemingly under control. Jim T
I don't know if you are La Manz but, since the last rainfall the catch basins are overflowing. Is it possible to get update on the sewer? Perhaps the high water table is negating the transfer across the highway to the treatment plant at Los Ingenios? Are more funds needed?
Check out the thread under maryJo's posting of fotos from her living room...November 8. It will give you a synopsis of continuing sewer issues. An updated technical report from the Engineers Without Boarders last visit will be available soon.
