A strange truck with beacon and horn came up our street tonight around 9 . Any idea what it it is? Thanks

I think it's the truck that sprays for mosquitoes.

Yes, it was the spray truck sent by the municipality to spray the roadsides for dengue-infected mosquitos. First time I have heard them this year, so there may be some outbreaks of dengue fever.
Not sure how effective it is to spray the dry roadsides, but I would close my windows when they come your street.

Fogging does carry some dangers because the fog is basically burnt oil carbons that carry the chemical insecticides.
For instance if your car smoked like that you would probably be locked up.
My friends carp pond was contaminated by a fogger and all his fish died.
Thermal foggers typically use a hydrocarbon based carrier solution such as diesel, paraffin or kerosene oil and operate at high temperatures involving an open flame.
Cold foggers - Ultra Low Volume (ULV) Cold foggers or ULV foggers as they’re commonly referred to, are powered by electricity, and convert the fogging liquid to a fine mist which is dispersed into the air at high velocity.
There is another safer mixture that can be used in foggers, which is a mixture of 30% glycerin and 70% water. But few of those fogging use it.
Remember if you can smell it you are breathing it. Whatever they are using try not to breath it because there is a risk to all life from chemical smoke containing insecticides. Although the WHO says the risk is minimal. Also some people are known to be allergic to the chemicals mixed with the oil, for them breathing it could be most unfortunate.
Fortunately fogging usually takes place at dusk or in the hours of darkness when the bees are safely tucked up in bed.

Sadly it also affects other wildlife... gekkos and birds in particular. We started using eco friendly sprays at Boca a few years ago but like many things one has to pay to protect the environment....can’t rely on the government to take this action ...again like many things.
