Hola to all La Manzanilla Message Board readers, and welcome back to all the birds migrating South!
Here’s the latest on the La Manzanilla recycling project. NOTICE- we are not accepting GLASS of any kind at this time. We will let you know when there is a new container for glass and we can resume.
the first recycling site in all the municipality of La Huerta – is up and running! Thanks to the leadership from the wonderful Director, José Francisco Mendoza Contreras, a newly formed parent committee, and support from La Manzanilla Hermosa.
Las Hormigas, located behind the Primary School on Playa Dorado, is open 24/7 to receive approved materials (you can find the list below). The new covered structure (built with generous community donations) will keep cardboard and paper dry and recyclable.
After the newly elected government administration is settled in La Huerta, we hope to resume convenient curbside recycling. We will keep you informed here and on Facebook.
Here is a list of accepted materials and non recyclable materials. This list has been confirmed with the buyer, Recicladora Tenacatita, in Aguas Calientes Viejo.

Thank you to everyone who has been helping to make Las Hormigas happen. The engineers from La Huerta and Autlán, the garbage men, the Primaria students, the teachers and staff, as well as all volunteers and donors. We would not be where we are without you!
La Manzanilla Hermosa is a small group dedicated to putting into action the 3 R’s, (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). Other projects starting up for high season include reducing the use of plastic carry bags at the grocery stores, reducing the quantity of plastic bottles sold, and encouraging reusable and/or biodegradable take-out containers. More news on these projects will follow under separate headings.

Re: Recycling News That You Can Use – November 2018
Thanks for these reminders, Lisa. It's good to know that plastic chairs, crates, etc. - the hard plastic - are recycleable, as plastic gets brittle so fast in this climate.
Re glass: I like to store most food in glass, and finally have more bottles and jars than I can use. Not sure if that kind of thing will be welcome at Otra Vez, the upcoming second hand store, but if anyone wants them free, contact me at 315 107 5198.

Re: Recycling News That You Can Use – November 2018
That's great news that mixed paper is being accepted again. There was not a place to leave it when I was there on Wed. Has a receptacle been added for it?
Also, has the primary school director been informed that Reciclidora Tenacatita will take mixed paper? On Wed, he told me that they would not.
Markets, markets, markets are always critical to recycling. It's a never-ending challenge. Which is why it is important for people to seek recycled-content products when they buy stuff!
Naturally, it is even more important to avoid buying so much stuff!!! And great for pocketbooks too.
