In her teens, Rita took several severely handicapped children to Guadalajara for medical attention that saved and changed their lives. On buses and with little help, she carried and cared for them for several weeks while they were treated. Can you imagine
People noticed that Rita was very bright and she was sent to Guadalajara for medical training. Returning to LM she provided community health education, nursing care and delivered many, many of the children for little or no pay.
Besides being intelligent and caring, Rita is also very attractive. As a senior, Rita was selected as LM queen and competed to represent our County. She has the distinction of being our only winning County contestant to win the State title. In Dagoli's portrait you can see why.
Now, Rita works for me and cares for her son who works in El Tamarindo. You can see her walking daily between the two of us. But her biggest contribution is the LM history that she carries and shares with such gusto. A true storyteller with a huge repertoire of memories and experiences that are both enthralling and enlightening.
The reason I know Rita and her family is because they met and knew my brother, Cresenciano, who came to LM and built a house here on Calle Playa Blanca in 1980. Upon retirement I was curious to see this house. I came to LM and then stayed, of course, lol. And, gloriously, Rita has shared all the moments that she spent with my brother and his wife. Such a gift to know more about my family.
So you see LM and I are very fortunate to have Rita in our lives and thank you David for giving me the opportunity to share her in this way. Cruz
PS: Rita also draws and is a potential Grandma Moses
