Anyway, it is about a 35-minute walk from the yellow bridge by the kindergarten. It should be beautiful this year after all of the rain the last few months. The water is icy cold (at least for someone from Louisiana) but it feels great after the hike.
The first part of the walk goes through the dry creek bed and it's rather hot. The second part goes through the lush jungle and has plenty of shade.
The last couple of times I went the woods were thick with ticks, so be sure to spray below your knees before you hike each way. Also, parts of the walk are rather rocky, so I advise against wearing sandals or flip-flops.
Despite these warnings, I consider Las Joyas incredibly beautiful and a great place to swim and/or enjoy a picnic.
