the GDPR (general data protection regulation) that passed in Europe.
Email addresses in the body of the message are not hashed like they
were in the email box and are more susceptible to spam. But the
email harvesters are so sophisticated that it doesn't make much
difference these days. Similar to the code one puts in to post, it stops
only the new spammer's, the majority get around that requirement with little
effort.
I don't like the email box being gone, it give me less control over
who is posting, some that are not from La Manzanilla are starting
to creep into the discussions, sometimes with controversial or fear
based comments. I wrote to Boardhost and asked if there was something I could
do to get the board back like it was? They said no. So we all have
to watch who we respond to, are they known by the people of La Manzanilla?
There are those who like to troll, to get people riled up just for the fun
of seeing them fall for it.
So I just have to do a bit more moderating which is difficult as I can't
email those who I don't know and ask who they are.
The golden days of the Internet are fading. There are serious repercussions
for communications about the wrong people and legal issues abound.
Communication is under attack just at the time when we get real communication.
Here are a couple of websites if you care to get involved.
