I adore you
My funky little village
My refuge from
A world gone mad.
I relish your sustaining
Me in your arms
Cradeling me in
Your inviting bay
Flat crescent beach
Embracing miles of
Coconut palms
No high rises here- yet.
With you
Gratitude is easy
Palm frond shelters
On empty beach
provide shade
A space to
Unwind, unwind
gulping in
Big Water and Sky
Nourishing ions
Fresh from the sea.
I am transformed
Hammocks are abundant
Novels are finally read
Sun kissed bodies
Gather to chant
Meditate in community
Or alone
Practiced healing hands
Massage hungry bodies
As the music
Of the sea
Fades in and out
In and out
With every wave and sigh.
People dance here
To live music
Night after night
For such a tiny town
Your offerings are vast
Yoga mornings shared
With others.
Classes in Salsa, tango,
belly dancing,
drawing painting, tai chi
Spanish.
Rooftop film series
Study groups; writing groups,
Readers theater.
Summer camp
for grownups
With you , my scrubby
Mexican beach town
I experience the
spaciousness of time
Non pressured time
There is room for play
And singing and making music
Relaxed visits with kindred spirits
Over cold limonadas or cervezas
While the children play
And the music
Rides the wind.
Feet in the sand
Umbrellas overhead.
Ocean front and center
I am not naïve
You dusty little
seaside village.
Your underbelly
Is quite known to me,
Challenging my
comfort level,
Water and sewage
stink , dirt and dust;
Politics, fevers and
Digestive stuff …
Your struggles
They frustrate me,
But all great loves
Are woven with
Threads of
Difficult stuff.
I am not alone
In the love I feel for you
When the cold chases many
You spread your arms
In warm welcome
Appreciate what we bring
Restaurants thrive
Fundraisers happen
For the children, the schools,
The dogs,the sewer
Money gets spent
Families benefit.
All inhabitants
That share your shore
Appreciate your gifts
We have a ritual
You and I
dear La Manz
I sit on your shoreline,
every evening,
and watch the sun
splash on the water
bouncing light onto
the canvas of the sky
oh, the light,
The violet hour
Soothes
touches deep
Feeds me
like love
