We have some good news to share concerning the project. I met twice with the new administration in La Huerta, and they have agreed to enter into a contract with us to pay for gasoline and maintenance of the ambulance. They also agreed to allow us to use the property at the Central de Salud, next to the secondaria, as a base for the ambulance. We want a secure base , but the fence around the property is broken down. I tried to get La Huerta to pay to fix or replace the fence, but they agreed to split the cost with us, so I'm currently trying to find a fence contractor to give me an estimate. If anybody knows of a company who does this work, please let me know.
We also met with the new Directors of Hospitals and Nursing at the Central de Salud. During that visit, we discovered that the center has had no water for two months. The doctor is distraught, to say the least. The day after that meeting, our delagado, Francisco, restored the water, and we were also able to get a promise from the directors to send much needed equipment and medicines to the center within the next two weeks.
All good news, and we expect to purchase the new/used ambulance by the end of this month. So are we out of the woods money-wise? No! The need for money to pay for Panchito's education is ongoing. The purchase of the ambulance will take almost all of our current funds, so we still need cash to fix up the base. The fence is one expense, but we also need to build a roof to park the ambulance under, and we need a secure store room for supplies.
Unfortunately, the Pay Pal account just didn't work out, so I have closed it after spending more than 20 hours on the phone with them trying to get the account to work. Sorry for the inconvenience! You can still make your donations directly to me or any of the ambulance team. Thank you for your continued support!
