LA BIB
Posted by sue oriley on October 16, 2018, 7:43 am
I am hoping to find volunteers to carry down some of the books and supplies headed for La Bib this season. We are also in need of a printer if anyone has one to offer and/or if anyone is willing to carry or drive down a printer. This year our focus is on books to support : 1. Reading program in school (primaria) 2. Student garden 3. Writing program for beca students Message me with any questions Thanks in advance, Sue | -----------------Re: LA BIB

A printer/scanner/copier can be acquired at one of the big box stores in Manzanillo. Perchance someone will donate some pesos to get 'er done. | -----------------Re: LA BIB

That is a much better idea, for so many reasons. I have carried a few printers to various projects over the years and it has become less and less enjoyable each time. Thanks for your thoughts. | -----------------Re: LA BIB

https://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Books-Childrens-Spanish/zgbs/books/69810 What about ordering books on Amazon, and having them delivered directly here? The search could be refined to say 'Children's books on gardening', etc. If someone wanted to take on choosing good ones, (maybe Sue?) (they could be slightly used, too), we could get donations for the books and shipping, so no-one would have to overload their luggage. To make it ecologically friendly, we should try to have a number of them delivered from one place and to one place here in La Manz. No sense in having a DHL driver coming from Guadalajara or wherever with one small book. My address could accept deliveries: 181 Manglares (en la esquina de Perula) La Manzanilla del Mar, Jalisco 48898 ... or they could go straight to La Catalina Foundation. Anybody have other ideas about this? | -----------------Re: LA BIB

Great thinking Carol,Thank you! I am working on book list now and will have suggested titles within next couple of days. List is a bit more than half complete and already close to $500. It would be really great to have help with finances. From todays research: local delivery is definitely possible having books delivered in fewer shipments is not going to have simple solution Possibly : donors could put together group orders or get book choices & payment to me and I can put in larger orders Open to suggestions | -----------------Re: LA BIB

I am hoping for some local response re Amazon and other online ways of purchasing things. It's just another indication of how our village is changing, and it's natural to resist change here in paradise. But I guess if the delivery trucks are coming here anyway, we could enjoy the benefits, and try to put in group orders of things, especially if it increases literacy. Does anyone have Amazon, DHL, etc. stories to share that might help us decide how to proceed? ie, Daniel posted that OXXO is starting to become a depot for orders. Is the one in Melaque acting as a depot yet? | -----------------
