road over the mangrove opening

so for the past 12 years I have advocated for putting culverts as a part of the road over the opening so that it didn't get washed out when the lagoon opened. Now that they have them, I am interested to know if they will in fact work. Maybe with this rainfall, we can find out. Needless to say, I hope they work and we won't keep adding dirt to the ocean each year. | -----------------Re: road over the mangrove opening

Tim, You and me both. As a bridge and transportation structural engineer, this was my first solution WAY back when. | -----------------Re: road over the mangrove opening

I thought that was a good solution too, but it didn't work. Now water is 2 to 3 feet deep all the way down the beach road and both ends of the bridge are washing out. The main part of the bridge, tho, is still intact at this time. A raging torrent is flowing into the bay. I am guessing only a few hours until it's wide open again. | ----------------- |
