Thanks Red. I arrived in Mexico on Day of the Dead 2 years ago and was amazed to see the high school students setup in the main square. In groups, they had made memorials to someone they had lost, and the townsfolk were voting on the best display. It was wonderful how they had put a guitar on one shrine, teddy bears on another, other things that reminded them of the person who had died. It was a celebration of lives lived! Not a gloomy event at all. A whole new take on death for me. Since then, I've thought what a great idea to have a day in the year to celebrate the lives of people we have loved - let them not be forgotten. | -----------------Re: worth a read . .

Such a beautiful post....My Mom died Oct 28 last year before I left for Mexico...when one knows about the real meaning of the Day of the Dead...how can we get excited about poisoning children with tons of chemical sugary candy and think that is so great....we could be teaching the children what this day could be for them and their families..instead of horror movies, being scared, and candy. Thanks Red. Linda Mandala
