Beach update

I’m a newbie to this board and La Manz but thought I should post this update for those who are thinking of coming here in the near future for a beach vacation, as we had planned to do. Currently the beach is not useable, for swimming (see previous thread :Ocean from our living room), walking, except during low tide. You will not be sitting on the beach watching your kids/grandkids build sand castles. The issue extends well down the beach so it’s not like you can walk to a better spot to swim. There have been excavators on the beach dealing with the rocks and debris so it seems to improve until the ocean has her way again. I’m not sure if this is a result of the recent weather or of this is an annual occurrence as we’ve been getting many different stories. One person even said the beach was always like this! Could “Google images “be lying? However there is a positive side to this and that we have had more time to enjoy this friendly town and vicinity: - Having long lazy delicious meals at one of the many good restaurants or quick tacos, fresh coconuts, icecream, top notch coffee, or a handcrafted margaritas (Crocodile Bar - hiring a local (Ever) to take us out on the water to explore, catch fish and snorkel( his family’s restaurant El Cato, cooked up our catch for us!) -taking a drive to some of the other beautiful beaches in the area (Tenacatita is amazing!) -wandering up the hillside back streets for jungle and beautiful views (great exercise!) -checking out the catch of the local fisherman as they bring in their boats (fishing seems to be good right now!) - watching the pelicans, frigate birds and cormorants feeding along the shoreline. -wandering through the mangrove swamp, the Cocodrilario (Wow!) - cat yoga class among the palm trees with Karen - practicing español with the amable locals -browsing the bookstore And probably lots more as we are only halfway through our vacation. Beachless and lovin’ it

Don't worry Chris, this is temporary. Happens every summer. Soon it will be one of the most beautiful beaches you've ever seen. Appreciate all the wonderful things you had to say about this great town.

I got here seven weeks ago. I’m amazed at how fast the beach is repairing itself | -----------------Re: Beach update

That is not unusual for early Nov. in a few weeks it will be back to our gorgeous beach with soft sand, few rocks and the trench in the ocean will have flattened out. Happens every single year and we have been here for 20 winters. | -----------------Re: Beach update

Thanks for your comments and feedback, Lee, Neal, and Nancy. Good to know. Bonnie it sounds like it will be a different beach in Jan. You may be okay | -----------------Re: Beach update

Bonnie - it is now illegal to ride any motor driven vehicle on the beach. | -----------------Re: Beach update

It has been illegal for years. Nobody enforced it. | -----------------Re: Beach update

Please don't! You might not get a ticket, but you could be confronted by residents who requested this ban. Why not stick to the roads, which go everywhere the beach does? | -----------------Re: Beach update

Lynne, the lady needs a motorized scooter. | -----------------Re: Beach update

I understand that, but every beachfront property has a road behind it, so I don't understand why anyone would need to ride a motorized vehicle on the beach to get from point to point. There are many reasons for the ban, which I've actually seen enforced from time to time. | -----------------Re: Beach update

I, too, need a motorized scooter and I get by just fine without going on the beach. Yes, no one enforces the law, but the law is there to protect the wildlife (i.e. turtles) and they can't. | -----------------Re: Beach update

I can't imagine some handicapped person being kicked off the beach or ticketed for using an electric scooter, maybe if it has a gas motor like an ATV. Anyway, they only enforce the law during peak tourism ,like Xmas or Semana Santa. | -----------------
