Hi David, If you took this photo of the lagoon, that means you were close to it..Is the town still pumping sewage into the Lagoon? We just became aware of the problem today and are wondering how the creative solutions are progressing? It seems to me that all the big heavy trucks for hotel construction make have contributed to the problem | -----------------Re: The Lagoon this morning

Hi Elizabeth, Where is the hotel being built? | -----------------Re: The Lagoon this morning

The hotel being constructed is located around the left side of the bay at Tamarindo. Unfortunately, there are large trucks using the main streets of La Manzanilla to bring materials and workers in and out. This is usually busier at the shift changes, morning and evening. The lagoon is now closed by a land bridge, and with the very big high and low tides we are having now, the water in the bay has cleared out well. | -----------------Re: The Lagoon this morning

That's good news about the lagoon connection being blocked from the ocean again. Does anyone know if the main sewer pump station is repaired? Or is all the sewage still being diverted into the lagoon? Thanks | -----------------Re: The Lagoon this morning

What I understand from talking with Ricardo, who is taking care of the carcamo now: sewage is still going into the lagoon....the pipe leading up to the other side of the highway where was crushed by the new bridge, and not repaired. | -----------------Re: The Lagoon this morning

Thanks David, It's really too bad the town and the environment half to wait so long for such an important repair. There is likely State or Federal funds for emergency repairs...if you are connected to the right people I'm guessing. | -----------------Re: The Lagoon this morning

From what I have heard, there was a recent change of government in La Huerta, the county seat. This caused the 'ball to be dropped' on the sewer issue. Other folks here are waiting for the local mayoral election which occurred today. And yet others are saying that the Tamarindo Resort originally agreed to create a working sewer system for the town in exchange for the right to put a 12” water main down the main street through La Manzanilla. | -----------------Re: The Lagoon this morning

Come on guys! It's the same old shit that's been going on. Everybody acts like this is something new. It's a repeat repeat repeat, and ain't never gonna change . Don't matter how much pesos you give. The powers that be(well don't be) need to give a shit before anything happens . Look at the truths. | -----------------Re: The Lagoon this morning

Rico, I remember walking down "main street" when it was still just a dirt road -- not long ago. I remember when the underground installation of the sewer line happened -- not long ago (2012?). Prior to that the whole town relied on septic tanks. I remember when flooding from a rainstorm caused washouts on Hwy 200 necessitating the building of two bridges. The building of the bridge at the turnoff to La Manz unintentionally resulted in the crushing of the sewer line running to the treatment facility east of Hwy 200 -- last year. I understand that mechanical equipment needs adequate maintenance and periodic rebuilding and replacement -- and that costs money. I am fully cognizant of how little I pay in property taxes towards La Manz's infrastructure, public schools, garbage collection, policing, and citizens. There are individual problems to be faced and solved. The lagoon self-drains after every rainy season -- that is a given. We can do our part to resolve the other issues. Jim T | -----------------
