The last time I posted a weekly message on Sunday morning, the message board gods seemed to turn against us and kept the crowds away that morning.
Well I have a message for the message board gods: I defy your pox on our slice of paradise as I post this weekly update ironically. We still have Canadians to feed and entertain. We also welcome gringos, too. Granted, I remain partial to Canadian women with a certain je ne sais quoi--oh Lord, let me get on with the schedule before we all develop a bad case of deja vu.
Sunday, March 17
Special Sunday Breakfast Buffet, 10 a.m.
Juanito/Kaleo/Bad Boys/Jazzie Funky--Hell, they’re damn good musicians, 10 a.m.
The season might wind down, but the food and the music heat up with “Cafe Regular” on tap. Please don’t ask for the vini vidi vici espresso, nor the capuchino with three drops of virgin goat blood. Belen and Alma promise to have nine different plates of food to go along with six kinds of fruit, plus bread, tortillas and waffles. Unless you ask ironically, no need to ask for a menu while 18 different items stare you in the face from the buffet table.
Monday, March 18
Adventures in marketing: Part 389. Please don’t tell me the morning of March 18 marked the time you planned on showing up for the breakfast buffet with your 32 closest friends ready to guzzle down several 2000-peso bottles of champagne. Let them know Veuve Cliquot tastes way better Sundays and Tuesdays. In other words, this marks the first day all season without a breakfast buffet. Thanks for your understanding.
Monday, March 18
Crocodile Bar opens at 3 p.m.
For those “customers” who enjoy coming to enjoy a seat at the table without purchasing absolutely anything, you can spend all of Monday morning at our establishment without any awkward exchange when a waiter asks you for your order and you don’t order anything.
Monday, March 18
Bad Boys, 6 p.m.
Stick around for the entire show and either Marcos or Mateo will give out a free beer or a free T-shirt with the words “La Manzanilla” on the shirt. Before you know it, future archaeologists will one day trace the crumbling skyscrapers of La Manzanilla to Mateo’s way-too-brilliant marketing scheme of placing a crocodile on a t-shirt.
Tuesday, March 19
Breakfast buffet, 9-11 a.m.
Laura and Roberto will also crank up their espresso machine! Welcome back, amigos!
Tuesday, March 19
Chava, 6 p.m.
Ladies, come enjoy some taco de ojo. Also, you know Chava rocks and you will embrace his guitar skills. If Chava’s taco de ojo doesn’t fill you up, try some Sopa Azteca, fish tacos or cucumber stuffed with shrimp. Giveaway at 8 p.m. for cool people who stay for the entire show.
Wednesday, March 20
Bad Boys, 6 p.m.
Speaking of guitar skills, Juanito will also dazzle you. Because some of you believe Canada will thaw out soon, this might mark your final chance to feel dazzled. Also, you will hopefully realize we have a menu with food items to go along with your margaritas. We even have the best tacos in the uni-oh, wait, that phrase is trademarked--we have the best fish tacos across the little bridge from the jardin. Another night, another 8 p.m. giveaway.
Thursday, March 21
The two Michels, 6 p.m.
You know who has more fun than a Canadian? A French Canadian! After putting off learning 10 words in Spanish for the 14th consecutive season, you can feel good about yourself while making a cultural exchange and learning about beignets, Mardi Gras, etouffee--OK, so they’re not Cajuns, but I consider the wonderful folks of Quebec both friends and wonderful people.
Friday, March 22
Kaleo and friends, 10 a.m.
Kaleo, Juanito, Craig and their musician friends have played numerous surprise gigs in the mornings and afternoons over the course of the season and we thank them for their talent. Come check them out before it’s too late and come enjoy our breakfast buffet.
Please follow us on Facebook and feel free to put nice comments about Crocodile Bar and Cabanas there, Google, TripAdvisor and Mateo.com. For those of you with dial-up Internet and rotary phones, please send smoke signals to your friends and relatives to get the word out.
