Amigos,
I need to pack my bags and move to Canada! Apparently many of you have the unusual idea that snow starting to melt equals a pleasant environment and you insist on returning home. “But Mateo, you’re a Gringo!” many of you shout as you read this. Why move to Canada or even talk about the Canadians when you have not even finished washing your All-American ways off in the shower yet?
Simply because one uses “y’all” every third word does not make one a Gringo, but even a more special breed: a proud Southerner. Alas, if I find winter in Louisiana too cold and summer feels the same here as there, I guess we need to celebrate with a margarita. Or at least a breakfast buffet.
Let’s put your money where you mouth is: For all of you who stop me on the street to let me know how much you enjoy these posts, don’t forget the best way to thank me would be to enjoy the best fish tacos across the little bridge from the jardin in La Manzanilla.
Monday, March 25
Juanito, 6 p.m.
Consider this your final chance to enjoy Juanito’s music on a Monday night at the Crocodile Bar and Cabanas. You can even stop by to ask Mateo about something other than competing rentals down the beach. And that could even lead to winning a cool t-shirt.
Tuesday, March 26
Chava, 6 p.m.
Ah, life in a small town where the waves don’t cancel out the wax in our ears. One customer says someone claims Chava doesn’t really play, but he just has some recording tricks. Another person says a certain Southerner has given up on Casa Carmen Maria, but last time I checked that beautiful property still has a Facebook page with more than 1,300 likes. Let’s give Chava 1,300 likes by enjoying his final Tuesday night show and filling up his tip jar.
Wednesday, March 27
Stay tuned and if I’m lucky a certain musician will post something pertaining to a certain establishment I’m only allowed to discuss once per week in this forum.
Thursday, March 28
Michel, 6 p.m.
Great guy and great musician. You have teamed up with Michel to raise around 10,000 pesos this season for the kindergarten. Please show up for his final Thursday night show and presentation. He might not have a giant fake check, but consider his gift more special: Real cash to benefit the kids.
Friday, March 29
Kaleo and friends, 10 a.m.
This will probably mark our final Friday breakfast buffet of the season, so please come by to enjoy the buffet and Kaleo’s trumpet!
Saturday, March 30
You know you want to hit a grand slam with the breakfast buffet followed by fish tacos, margaritas and a chocolate martini.
Sunday, March 31
Mark your calendars for Sunday afternoon and get ready to spend the day with us. We’ll make it fun. We promise. Please check back here later for more.

Or stop by the bar
I know some of you might be thinking you like the older stuff by Carlos Santana more than his recent work or you liked Mateo’s older posts more than this one, but Mateo used almost every ounce of his creativity Friday morning, so let him recover while he alternates between the use of first-person singular and third-person singular.
