For some background, ever since curbside pick up started there have been problems. This week it's worse due to the holidays. I am hoping that things will get on track once the regular municipal maintenance crew is back on the job.
In general, this project takes a lot of follow up, prodding, and downright nagging to keep it running at all, never mind putting in place a working, sustainable system. The change in administration in La Huerta November-January was also disruptive.
As many understand, recycling is not the solution, but we feel good about doing it, it's relatively easy, and at least it's keeping some materials out of the landfill. Personally, I would like to direct more of my energy in La Manzanilla Hermosa to raising awareness about reducing our local consumption of single-use plastic products. This would be in support of the Jalisco state law in effect since Jan 1, 2019 phasing out the use of these products, including styrofoam.
I will talk to Delegado early next week (along with I imagine every other supplicant!), as well as calling the Director of Ecology in La Huerta. I can post updates on the message board as things evolve, although most reading this are far, far away!
There is also a La Manzanilla Hermosa Facebook page which has been viewed many times by the locals. I will try to do a better job on updating that page as newsworthy items come through.
Thanks to all who during high season worked to launch and support this first recycling program in La Huerta. Hopefully we can keep going and make improvements!
