Feral Cat Sterilization

Hello All! About two months ago, I contact Julie of Cisco’s Amigos regarding the growing population of feral cats in La Manzanilla. Julie and I talked about the options for sterilization, to help with population control of the cats here in La Manzanilla. Julie and I asked our vet here in La Manzanilla, Abraham, if he would be willing to be involved. After he agreed, Abraham and Julie came to an agreement with when he was willing to perform sterilizations, And what Cisco’s Amigos would contribute. Abraham performs 2 or 3 sterilizations for us on Thursday. We live trap Wednesday night. These are the only sterilizations Abraham does that are paid for and covered by our arrangement with Cisco’s Amigos arrangement. Any other sterilizations done by Abraham are not covered by Cisco’s Amigos unless Julie and I have been contacted and are given time to contact Abraham and make sure he is on board also. Norma and her friends have brought in 6 plus cats on their own time and are doing a fantastic job. Thank you so much for all your efforts! If you would like more information regarding the feral cat sterilization program Julie and I are running, please contact me by email. colablamanz@gmail.com

This year I noticed much more feral cats here next to the crocodiles, on the road to Boca. How could we catch them to be sterilized? Congratulations for the amazing work and the love for the animals and our community! | -------------------Re: Feral Cat Sterilization

Many of you might not know, but because of our climate female cats can come into heat 4 or even 5 times /year and produce a lot of kittens-10 to 20/year. Incredible . These cats survive on wild birds, lizards, rats and mice(a good thing)and anything else they can scavenge, including getting into restaurants and tiendas and making a terrible mess. Reducing the number of these ferals helps our environment in so many ways. In the past it was a common practice for people to put out poison to deal with the problem. That is a terrible solution since the poison (usually strychnine ) gets into the environment and kills everything it touches. It still happens, but through education it seems to be getting less of a solution. One of Cisco's commitments to the community is to help the environment as well as provide sterilization for dogs and cats. Reducing the number of these ferals that can reproduce especially helps our wild birds and lizards. With the payment to Abram and the cost of medicines and supplies we are providing it's coming to around $300ps /cat. If we are going to continue this service we really need monetary help. I realize that asking for money seems to be the "cry of the season", but Cisco's depends only on our community for the money it takes to do the clinics and now this very important project. Don't I wish the ???? foundation would come in and hand us the money-wishful thinking??? Think about dropping off a donation at The Lab with Laura. Tell her the money should go directly to the "Catch that Cat" Trapping Project. And if you want a trap please contact me @ ciscosamigos @hotmail.com or Laura at The Lab. We'll put you on the list. The cats are released in the same area where they are trapped . We do not and will not "dispose" of them in the "jungle". Thank you for your support. | -------------------Re: Feral Cat Sterilization

My friend has trapped 10 cats and paid for 8 of them. One died during surgery. On Thursday we took a cat in to be spayed thinking that it would be paid out of the cat trap fund, so my friend didn't pay Dr. Abraham, the vet. When we went to see Laura at the Lab, she said we hadn't told her ahead of time that we were trapping so she couldn't give us the money. There was another cat trapped by another person who hadn't contacted Laura either. Is this a legitimate project or what? | -------------------Re: Feral Cat Sterilization

Susana, I assume the local fisherman are still disposing of fish parts at the lagoon . That's the perfect place for these ferals to hangout getting to the food before the Crocs do . If someone would like to take on "trapping at the Crocs", that would really be appreciated. Let me know. | -------------------Re: Feral Cat Sterilization
