no internet - apologies
Posted by Jo Anna on February 19, 2019, 8:35 pm
I know a couple of people are trying to make contact with me and are wondering why I'm not responding. I have no internet at this time and am not sure when it can be restored. Apparently the IP Address related to my router has been 'blacklisted' by Shaw and a large group of providers. I don't even pretend to understand how this can happen or why or what the heck can be done about it but have someone coming over tomorrow, Wednesday, to see whether there might be a quick fix; if this does not pan out . . . no sé -- I don't know. In the meantime, please accept my apology, Ginny, LM, NN, Pat L. I will respond when the computer gods see fit.

The blacklisting of server IP addresses is beause your Shaw email is buying an anti-spam service from a company like RMG Openwave who keeps lists of suspect server originating spam. Since you are communicating remotely to your Shaw server to send mail from your Shaw account you could be a spammer according to the computer program that evaluated your email and refused to send it. I had this problem with my BellAliant account when in Mexico. You get mail but it will not send. Bell had their system set up so that I didn’t even get notice of the failure to send for a couple of days. The notice eventually came mentioning RMG Openwave failing to pass the outgoing mail. Maddening. I have several email accounts and use both iCloud and GMail to get around this issue. I also have a VPN set to Canada which also works to get around the Mexican server issue. Sometimes you just have to respond from your home account so the cost of a VPN service is worth it. Andy Morrow | -------------------Re: no internet - apologies

Shaw has Webmail from which it allows you to send while abroad. It is a clumsy program but works. Andy Morrow | -------------------
