sewer news
Posted by Lety estudio MarMaya on March 21, 2019, 9:22 pm
To the community in general (who have a home or business in La Manzanilla or just love this land) to ask for their financial support in the form of a contribution, to give a solution to our sewer system, which over the years has affected all of us in our quality of life and in the sectors of tourism, health and the environment. The cooperation will be to repair the damaged pipe and install a new drainage system to the treatment plant and its maintenance, with this we will be able to put an end to the spill of sewage into the mangrove and later into the bay, as well as stop its exit in the man holes of the downtown. Our goal as a community is to raise 600,000 thousand pesos (amount necessary to achieve this objective) The financial contributions will be delivered to the MarMaya studio with Lety Hernández, who will issue a receipt and will be permanently informing the community about the progress of the collection and the work. Suggested fee: 700 pesos home without connection and 1,500 pesos already connected house, restaurants, hotels and bars. "Be part of this solution with your support"

What about the local and federal government, are they going to contribute anything? | -------------------Re: sewer news
Posted by Lety on March 22, 2019, 4:23 pm, in reply to "Re: sewer news"
We invite all the community that lives or has property in La Manzanilla (Premises and foreigners) This is a project that involves all of us who are affected by this problem. We had a meeting with the president and he assured that the government is already raising funds for this issue, but he did not say what will happen this year. So we decided to form a group of people with social responsibility to give a quick solution. Luckily we have had good response and support from the local people. Maybe the government will accelerate the support by seeing our work collaborating with this, but we can not wait for more years to pass and continue living like this. | -------------------Re: sewer news

In Canada we don't think of it as government sponsored or funded so much as taxpayer funded ...ie ...most government initiatives in one way or another involve a fair bit of taxpayer collected revenue...are taxes collected by the local government in La Manzanilla to help fund such important projects? are home owners charged an annual fee for maintenance and construction of infrastructure ? or is it voluntary ? | -------------------Re: sewer news

We are a group of local volunteers concerned about our health, the environment and the image of our town. We have met in more than one occasion with the president of the local government of La Huerta to reiterate how important and urgent it is to work on this great project, He assures us that they are about to authorize $ 18,000,000 for the sewer issue, but it is unlikely that will happen This year, that is why we decided to take a step forward as volunteers and at least to ensure that our sewage does not spill into the mangrove and then into the ocean, but into the treatment plant. | -------------------I'm in

Art and Trudy; and Steve and Dana owners of Casa Tortuga will contribute $4,500 MXN to the sewer fund. The amount of contribution is based on $1,500 MXN for each of our three apartments. We hope that the rest of the community also steps forward. | -------------------Re: Sewer Contribution

We, Rob and I, would like to contribute also. Would be happy to etransfer money in Canadian funds to a Canadian who is in Manznilla and can then pay to the fund in pesos, if there's anyone willing to help with this exchange. | -------------------Re: Sewer Contribution

Thanks for your leadership and effort on this Lety. Usually when an improvement or maintenance levy is applied to properties some plan of action, often drawings or exhibits are provided, and a proposed budget presented to those being asked to contribute. Or being required to pay taxes. Almost yearly there is another call for funds to correct infrastructure problems in town. I understand things happen and repairs are needed, no question there. My question deals with who is responsible? The Ejido, the village of Lamanz, La Huerta? Or are we at the whim of the politicians at state level? Continuing to apply band=aids to utility systems poorly designed and installed originally is a foolish way forward. Isn't it time to seriously seek grants or funding and leadership from the State and Federal level for real infrastructure? How much is going to be added to the system when the worker housing is built south of town? Are we on the hook for supplying water and sewer to that development too? Lots more to the issue than simply sticking out your hand for help. Rojo | -------------------Re: Sewer question

Red has some very good points. I watched this latest attempt go in and had questions but the questions were too late in the game. It would be better to build a viable system than to fix a broken one after the fact. What is this worker housing project that you mentioned? Is it for Tamarindo workers? | -------------------Re: Sewer question
Posted by Red on March 25, 2019, 4:58 pm, in reply to "Re: Sewer question"
A local was sharing chisme about the cement plant visible to the south of town and how tamarindo/4season worker bee housing is planned for nearby. Was not the time or place for questions so that's all the gossip I got. Normally reliable source. Rojo | -------------------Re: Sewer question

We are a group of volunteers who try to make a short-term solution and not wait for a system that was promised since the last administration and we do not have a date when it is going to be done Meanwhile, the continuous water spills in the lagoon and then in the bay, without saying, in the days. Our goal for now is to collect 600 thousand pesos to put an alternate pipe with a capacity greater than a larger pump. Unfortunately we do not have a date for this new project so we can not sit back and watch how this continues to happen so we set ourselves the goal. And Red, believe me, I ma not simply sticking out my hand for help. I am collaborating with $50,000

It seems to meet that in the past SEMANART (sp) was always on top of issues that involve the mangroves. I wonder if they are aware of the issues with the sewer water and it flowing into the lagoon, now and before? If so, the federal government would normally step in and address this issue. They did that when Tenacatita was fenced off and they reopened it because the person had built a part of the fence into the mangroves. It would seem that this issue is far more important then a fence in the mangroves. | -------------------Re: sewer news

When i was at the meeting RE: blackwater , there was a plan (voiced strongly by Perla)to ask every house for a 600 pesos yearly contribution (50 x 12 months). She was planning to go door to door .....what happened to that? It seems that only people that read the message board (in english only) are asked to contribute. | -------------------Re: sewer news

Perla had to go to Argentina suddenly, but She is comming back soon and still very interested in working on it. We post also in Spanish on Facebook for local people at the same time. This is a project for everyone | -------------------Re: sewer news

I am not a home owner in La Manz, but I assume there is a fee for electricity and water, and a payment system. At home I pay $30US a month for sewer usage. I feel this is reasonable and necessary. Perhaps a similar payment system could be established here (I’m not suggesting $30). Exceptions could be made for those without the resources to pay. A long standing public health tenet is that, if water is provided, there must also be a sanitary method of collecting said water.

The Facebook book page is Equipo Bandera Azul La Manzanilla. Named for the Blue Flag designation for beaches that meet certain criteria. The locals here use Cell phone to keep in touch - Facebook and WhatsApp. Thanks Lety and team for your effort on this complex project!! | -------------------Re: sewer news

great leadership being shown here Lety ! you are definitely on the right track. The sewer situation is an ongoing and serious issue that needs a proper fix for many reasons ...health being the main one ... Funding in Mexico and every other place is and always will be an issue. However for guests and visitors and investors to question what local Mexican villagers will pay is in poor form. We are guests who enjoy many aspects of living in Mexico and most have the means to assist in a manner that should be equivalent to what we pay in the other places we live. Some have asked what the various forms of governments will contribute. Yes a good question but where most visitors live, there exists a system of regular taxation. In these cases funds are accumulated and used for construction and maintenance of things like sewer lines. From my understanding, most pay very little if anything for property tax, garbage pickup and water. It is a privilege to be able to holiday and possibly own property in Mexico. With that privilege and right comes a responsibility. | -------------------Re: sewer news

I am a renter on Chamela and support sewer renewal. I am reporting here a small sewer leak on the NW corner of Chamela and Dorado coming from under the paver rocks. The first couple days I thought it might be only water, and yesterday I noticed it was bubbling gasses. I hope it will be investigated and repaired by those in authority to do so. | -------------------Re: sewer payments

Great idea Spencer ..many of us do not live in La Man full time and would like to help ..wondering if Lety or someone can set up some type of Go Fund me or some system so the many many folks who read this page and are interested in helping can easily transfer some money to assist .. it all adds up ...and this is a problem that affects all ..lets do this !! | -------------------Re: sewer payments

I’ve delivered my donation. It’s easy and quick, and the receipts are right there waiting. Thanks so much to the Carcamo Committee for all the research you have done, and for making this bold request. If anyone in Canada wants an easy way to donate, a Canadian friend who is still here could receive an Email Transfer in Canadian funds, then withdraw that amount in pesos and take it in to Estudio Marmaya. It’s an easy way we Canadians transfer money to each other. | -------------------Re: sewer payments
