Save baby parrots

What's the best way to discourage people trying to steal wild parrots from their nest - my crazy screaming chased them off this morning, but not for long I fear. Is there any point in mentioning it to the police? Don't mean to be an interfering busybody but it's hard to watch this happening. | -------------------Re: Save baby parrots

In the past I have seen trees cut down to get baby parrots. Some are for pets (don't see as many as I used to) and some are for sale i.e. poverty driven. Its been going on for many years and seems to be part of the balance of things as they are not endangered. I am not endorsing the behavior but Parrots are huge noisy, they squawk all the time even while flying which makes the nest easy to find. In Malibu where they are protected I have seen them grow to the point their constant noise reduced property values. | -------------------Re: Save baby parrots!

Oh for goodness sakes. The parrots have a right to live. We humans are destroying the planet with our greed. Kill parrots to increase property values? Property is already out of sight for most people. Let's get our priorities straight. The environment is a mess because we think we have the right to level it. I suggest you tell the Delegado or at least ask him what you can do about it. His name is Francisco and he cares very much about the environment. If you need a translator let me know. Thanks for posting this Anne. 351-7029 | -------------------Re: Save baby parrots!

Property values changed in Malibu Nansee, not here. They didn't kill the birds, they continue to propagate unhindered. | -------------------Re: Save baby parrots!

We are not in Malibu and we are not talking about “property value” parrots in Mexico are in danger of extinction that’s why it’s ILEGAL to take them from their nest and sell them so they can live in cages for the rest of their life. It’s been a couple days that several people have been crossing trough my family’s property. Another thing is that people like me that enjoy nature also enjoy the parrots loud squeezes. | -------------------Re: Save baby parrots!

I spoke to Francisco (Deldgado )and he suggests you call him or the police when there is any activity around the nest. Francisco's telephone number is 315-112-4048. If you are calling from a land line dial 044 first. | -------------------Re: Save baby parrots!

Irlanda, does your family have a dog they could put in the yard until the baby parrots fledge? Don't know how Anne feels about this but it may be a good warning system that the thieves are on the property and perhaps a deterrent. What do you think... just brainstorming here. | -------------------Re: Save baby parrots!

It takes about 3-4 months for baby parrots to fledge! How old do you figure they are? | -------------------Re: Save baby parrots!

I feel like it will be a couple more weeks because these people have been waiting for them to get old enough to survive without the mother so it should be anytime now all though they will keep trying to take them down , it’s very sad. | -------------------Re: Save baby parrots!

Glad to hear there are others aware of this. We are leaving soon and don't have a phone. Our landlord is concerned too but he'll be gone soon as well.

How can they be protected when the humans who are now guarding them are gone? Any ideas out there? | -------------------Re: Save baby parrots!

Outbid the buyers, finish raising them and then release them. | -------------------Red-lored Parrot

There are 2 endemic parrots here - the smaller, more common, Orange-fronted Parakeet and the larger, endangered Lilac-crowned Parrot | -------------------Lilac-crowned Parrot
