Yellow sea

Anyone know what is making the sea so yellow? Is there any health risk from swimming in it? Thanks! | -------------------Re: Yellow sea

It’s an algae bloom, actually reddish further out, but turns greenish near the shore as it gets oxygenated. Happens around this time each year, sometimes causing bioluminescence at night. I don’t think it’s harmful for swimming though. | -------------------Re: Yellow sea

I just did a little reading on red tide and algae blooms in general, and they can cause problems for some people, including skin and eye irritations and stomach issues if you happen to swallow some of the sea water. I usually avoid swimming until the red tide subsides. I'm betting by next week, it will be gone! | -------------------Re: Yellow sea

I suffer with runny eyes and congestion when the red tide occurs. If it’s windy it’s misery. Claritin and eye drops do give relief thank goodness. | -------------------Re: Red Tide

This is an algae bloom, also known as a red tide. It can be harmful or not but it’s good to avoid eating any kind of mollusks, things like clams or oysters. Best not to swim while it’s present it can be toxic to fish and other animals including humans. | -------------------
