After many cars bought and put in my name last year I was told in Cihautlan that the law had changed and NO tourist visas could not have their name on the ownership. I left it in my friends name and got insurance in my name. Then they told me it could change with this last election and I never bothered to ask as its a long procedure and just did the same for this year ......her name my insurance!! Viva Mexico. | -------------------Re: Owning a car in Mexico

I checked in November and they said no way. I did what you did, I got liability only insurance in my name with the driver added to the policy to protect him and me, while he was here for 2 months. Then I cancelled the policy. | -------------------Re: Owning a car in Mexico

I used Lewis and Lewis for years with an American plated vehicle but when I bought a Mexican vehicle they did not cover it at the time. Maybe they have expanded their offerings. Good luck! | -------------------Re: Lewis and Lewis Insurance Agency

My one-year, 3 million peso liability policy through Ronny @ Lewis&Lewis cost 3487 pesos. The car had Jalisco FARM plates. Ronny did not seem very interested in country of origin or any of that. I will use her again. | -------------------Re: Lewis and Lewis Insurance Agency

George and I have a Mexican beater down here and we have only tourist visas. They don't seem to care. They never ask. Does this mean we're not 'legal"? | -------------------Re: re Qualitas

I backed my truck into a car a couple of years ago,in lamanz.lt was my fault. I called the Qualitas agent in Manzanlllo. He said for both parties to stay at the location, and he would be here in an hour. He arrived when he said He had me make a statment in writing what had happend. He talked to the other party, about it would be handled. My truck was undamaged.. He left,l left. I never heard another word from Qualitis. I still insure my truck with them at the same rate. | -------------------
