Beautiful, David. The subject really suits black and whilte. I think you've created a new name for this place, too...never know what to call it. | -------------------Re: Hotel Caido

Gracias Kathy! The locals here call it Hotel Caido, Pronounced cah-EE-do - “fallen", from the verb caer, 'to fall'. | -------------------Re: Hotel Caido

Thanks for that edification on the local's name for it, David. I'd never heard that before but the perfect name for it. We've always just referred to it as the "white elephant down the beach". Great photo, Mr. D. | -------------------Re: Hotel Caido

I know there’s a story about this hotel and it’s demise that I heard while visiting in 1990 but can’t recall the details. Can you please tell me the story, Gracias | -------------------Re: Hotel Caido

The hotel was functioning until an unfortunate propane tank explosion in the kitchen that collapsed the central area. The hotel was nice and the separate casitas on the south side along the pool were quite comfortable. We went over there one day and partied with the crew who was shooting a movie here in the bay and the Barra bay called McHale's Navy. We had a great time and I am glad I got to see it in its hey day. I heard that they had recently sold all the designated lots behind the hotel, but I am not sure about the hotel site itself. At one point a few years back the rumor was the government was going to confiscate the property to build a Ixtapa-ish grand hotel because the owner was not doing anything with the property. We will see in the future what happens to this choice piece of real estate. | -------------------Re: Hotel Caido

AN "Old Mexican General" was given it with the land & Hotel many years ago... Hear say has "it was the boiler that had blown up....Killed others". So why don't "U" "thinker's" buy it and knock it down...You will need lots of $$$$$$$$....that you collectors can separate the rebar, next grinding the cement and starting all over! Got a got few millions? Maybe a "tad" more? "gossip" "Does cost much" ????????$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ | -------------------Re: Hotel Bahia

Sorry marble but your first sentence is incorrect, there was no "Old Mexican General" involved in this story. | -------------------Re: Hotel Bahia

I heard that the boiler, hot water tank, blew up and killed the daughter of a general. He ordered the hotel shutdown. Then in '95 the earthquake, 7.6, knocked it down, it had been built pretty shoddy, the caretaker just made it out before the central dome collapsed. Years later there was a dispute about ownership and probably never settled. Meanwhile, it is just rubble. If you look closely you can see the rebar was badly done. | -------------------Re: Hotel Bahia

Marble, I'm sure that you are probably right that there are as many stories as there are people telling them. My version was told to me by Nancy Underwood some time in the late 80s or early 90s. Sorry I can't be more accurate on the time but I'm not as sharp as you youngsters in your 70s . Nancy Underwood was quite the sensational chanteuse in Mexico City's nightlife when she was in her late teens and early 20s and seemed to know everybody that was anybody in Mexico. Her story was that the young daughter of a very wealthy and influential business man in Mexico City, fell in love with a gentleman who her father thought was a neerdowell and only interested in his daughter because of his money, Never the less, the love affair flourished and they eventually married with the bride begging her father to give her husband a chance to prove himself. The husband claimed to know everything about the resort hotel business and if his Father In Law would provide financial backing, he would provide the family with a world class resort hotel. The Father reluctantly provided the money and the hotel was built. When the boiler exploded, the Father blamed it all on his Son In Law and refused to provide the necessary funds to repair the damaged structure and equipment needed to reopen the hotel. Exit Hotel Bahia.

Hola. I believe the 'General' part of the story belongs to 'El Tecuan'. Sorry, marble. Cruz | -------------------
