A story

Monday late afternoon a man (in his mid 50's) his wife and son (around 12) came by the office. They were looking for work to make enough money to pay the bus fare back to Guadalajara. I told them to come by the next morning at 10 am. Right at 10 am they all showed up, I had him wash and wax both my cars, his wife and kid helped out as much as they could. While working he was singing, his son was on the beach playing in the water and he could look through the doors of the office and see him playin and would share the pleasure that gave him. They are happy people. When finished they asked if I had more work. They need $1,200 pesos for the bus, they had $500 and now after my paying them have $850. I said for him to come back tomorrow at 9 am and to be ready to work to 3 pm. This morning he and his family showed up, I really only had work for him but his family wanted to come along so up the hill we all went. I gave him the task of cleaning up the parking area, they all went at the task together wholeheartedly. I like these people, they are happy and get along with each other very well. I went back to the office and did some work and came back a few hours later, they had finished all the task I had given them so I took them back to the office and paid them. They now have enough money to get back home. This evening I was talking with a friend on the beach and came to realize just how special these people were and the message they gave me. Here they were miles from home without enough money to get home, were they worried about that? No. They were used to trusting the universe to provide. The freedom they showed me has impacted my life. These people could hold seminar's on how to be free, truly free and make a lot of money. They don't realize that nor do they think along those lines. ####ing beautiful. | -------------------Re: A story

They were staying with my neighbor Eva for about a week or so. Same thing here, gave them some work as they were needing to get on the bus to Guad, that same day... | -------------------Re: A story

When I returned back to the States from Mexico this year, the first thing my neighbor asked was, "Did you feel safe?". Of course I feel safe, I told him. We sleep in tents down there. People have such misunderstands of Mexico, and how wonderful the Mexican people are. Thanks for sharing your great story. | -------------------Re: A story

The Mexican people are friendly, helpful, sincere, and hardworking. Those of us who spend time here, know this. My hope is that one day those north of the border will realize this as well, and come to appreciate our friends to the south. Thanks, Daniel. | -------------------Re: A story

Heart warming .. thanks for posting. I was asked recently "what keeps you going back to Mexico every year... Is it the weather, the lower cost of living, the food?" I replied " those things are fringe benefits. The real draw is the Mexican people."

Daniel, this is such a touching and telling story of Mexico, of the Mexican people, that so many NOB can't seem to understand. I love that after reading it my first thought was "Yeah, that's about right." Duckie aka suedonnamoose(at)hotmail | -------------------Re: A story

Not having money usually carries a lot of stigma, shame, blame, less than others, being called poor etc. For these folks all it means is they need a little money, their self esteem is completely intact. | -------------------Re: A story

Just read this More anger, worry and sadness around the world than ever before, study finds "Meanwhile, Latin American countries were dubbed the leaders in positive experiences......." Comments are interesting, in particular "Even if people are doing well we’re stuck in a mindset of scarcity. Everyone is either worried they’ll never get to live a comfortable life, or worries the life they have will disappear." When I read articles like this and look at the happiness levels of the well off countries as compared to life here in Mexico I can't help notice that something in the money/stuff story I was raised with is seriously amiss. edit: another fav "Sometimes it seems the like most luxurious commodity in the world is time to be bored of doing nothing."

When you have nothing , you have nothing to lose , you are free to pursue your life in whatever direction fate and your own motivations take you . Some of the most amazing and satisfactory adventures have come during times when I have had nothing . My heart and mind were always wide open with no fear . I trusted that the universe would provide .... and it always somehow did . I`m glad that I read your post . It`s been a long time since I thought of those amazing times . I have been caught up in the worries of materialism for quite some time . Maybe its time to dump some stuff and take the bus somewhere that my soul needs to be . Good story ..... Thanks You got me thinking . | -------------------
