It won't like our climate, too hot! But I have seen it in El Comer, Manzanillo. | -------------------Re: Rhubarb

Thanks, Mazinka - i wax pretty sure it wouldn’t grow here, but was hoping someone had seen it for sale somewhere. I’ll keep my eyes peeled each time I go to Manzanillo! | -------------------Re: Rhubarb

It was grown in Ajijic commercially a couple of years ago. It does not like heat, needs to have falling temp below 40f in the winter and 75f tops summer, cannot tolerate our strong sunshine although it like sunlight, prefers to start the season with sharp frost snap, not much chance of any of that. Its perennial, likes to grow under an old upturned bucket to start the ryzomes off each year. Rhubarb is easy to grow, but needs cool weather to thrive. La Manz and Barra are out of the question to grow rhubarb. Sorry for the bad news. | -------------------Re: Rhubarb

Ah, William - you’re breaking my heart! Any idea if they are still trying to grow them in Ajijic? | -------------------Re: Rhubarb

No but I know if they are they sell some of their below standard product in Guadalajara wholesale vegetable market. The export standard of the fruit exported from the Ajijic area is of the highest international standard. All the soft fruits you see for sale everywhere are those which do not meet the export standard. Mexicans do not eat rhubarb, don't think most of them even know what it is. So it's grown for export and will be seasonal, the export markets only want it when their home grown is not available. I have an acquaintance that I see every few weeks who is manager of one of the export company's. When I see him I will ask if it's still being grown, when it may be available and how much a couple of boxes are. It freezes well when cooked with sugar, and you may have to sell some to friends. Even convince one of the tradesmen to make rhubarb and apple pies. my email is emperorharriss@aol.com so if you let me have yours I will contact you with information when I have it. | -------------------
