I have noticed for a while now that NOAA has leaned toward the side of
max drama. It's also known as a captured agency. Captured by
who? By advertising dollars.
An imaginary scenario given this present weather event. Regular Meteorologist
reports "chances of becoming a hurricane are slim" Boss (who is captured)
Close enough, report it as a hurricane. Why? What brings more eyeballs,
a tropical storm or a hurricane? The more dramatic "fear" the more money.
This may turn out to be a hurricane (over 39 mph winds) but I think
my point still stands, not only on weather but across the news reporting
spectrum. Get the widow on the set, we need dirty laundry. It is sad
(and dangerous) to realize just how skeptical (mistrusting) I have become.
