This is the 3rd hurricane in 9 years: CAT 2 Jova in 2011, CAT 5 Patricia in 2015 and now Lorena in 2019.
Jova was slow moving and very wet, approx. 20-24 inches of rain, Patricia was very fast, very windy (200 mph) and not too much rain, Lorena more like in the middle!
In the 90's I talked with an old timer and he said that LM got a big earthquake every 100 years. We got one in 1995, 7.9, 60 seconds, the year I built my house. It destroyed many homes in the village.
He also said LM got a hurricane every 30 years. I was here in 1981 when we got hit by a very strong tropical depression that destroyed all of the palapa restaurants on the beach.
Maybe there is something to this global warming? It seems the frequency is picking up!
Oh well, I guess we should just enjoy the beach, people, food and life in general, es la vida!
