Woodpecker

This morning I briefly watched an unfamiliar woodpecker on a palm tree trunk ten feet away. I was confident I could identify this smaller pileated lookalike from the field guide so didn't memorise features quite closely enough. I then found that the lineated and pale-billed are very similar and have similar ranges and are both listed in my E.P. Edwards field guide as rare. Could a seasoned birder out there assess the likelihood of its being a lineated or pale-billed? Thanks.
