Road to Melaque
Posted by Daniel H on August 16, 2019, 9:24 am
I have a feeling this will be the last rainy season the road to Melaque will look like it does. They are due to begin construction to widen that road soon. I want to take a good 1080 HD video of how it looks for posterity but I am not sure if I am going to be able to pull it off. Anyone out there care to assist on this task? | ------------------Re: Road to Melaque

I have an SUV, camera (not sure if it takes 1080p) and nothing but time on my hands. I'll be there in 2 weeks if I can be of help. | ------------------Re: Road to Melaque

Checked. Camera does 4K, who would have thunk. 1/2 hour bites and 2 hours of video on card. A sunroof run, there and back? | ------------------Re: Road to Melaque

I did a pretty good one Friday. I loaded it to You Tube (twice), it says processing but never gets done (its 2 GB .MTS). I may need to convert it or host it elsewhere, any ideas? | ------------------Re: Road to Melaque

Daniel, I check for new youtube videos about LM daily. You actually did upload one, but it's obviously not what you intended. Still, a fun peek at some guy who seems to be doing a version of my favorite song ever. [url=

Maybe you could split it up and upload it as parts 1 and 2 and then it would upload okay? | ------------------Videos complete

If you click on the little gear in the bottom right corner you can select HD 1080 (high definition) and play full screen. They seem to play a little fast(I guess I was driving fast) if you click on the little gear you can change the speed to .75 and it will play a little slower. Here is the one from La Manzanilla to Melaque

I'm in a chatty mood. Best would be to put the cam on the front of the regular bus, to catch the sound of the motor and the shifting gears and the slow speed, I bet that bus doesn't kill very many butterflies. I had to slow the vid down to .25 to really do the drive, lots more butterflies to be seen Seems .25 is the speed I should be living, certainly see more. You see the groups of cars, usually behind a slower vehicle? That is what the extra lane (new construction one day soon) is supposed to reduce. To realize that every pixel of this video is the result of photons from the sun reflecting off of each thing into the camera. And not only into the camera but to each inch + to the left, right, up and down! Photons blow my mind (Neurons) Edit: changed a photon to photons | ------------------Re: Videos complete

One of the aspects that I most enjoyed was the incredible lush, thick, dark green foliage. Oh how I miss the rain season. Thanks Daniel for the ride! | ------------------Re: Videos complete

Thanks for recording this scenic drive. Getting back to Daniel's original post, things will be different for humans and all other creatures once construction/destruction gets underway. Unfortunately what we call "progress" often results in less plants and animals, and diminishing areas of biodiversity in this endangered semi-deciduous tropical forest. Expect to see more erosion and runoff from roadcuts as well. I guess the goal is to go faster. Enjoy the lush greenery, flowering trees and occasional coati crossing while it lasts... and please plant trees, flowers and shrubs for wildlife wherever you can! | ------------------Re: Videos complete

Hi Lisa: I don't know you and I don't want to appear that I am disrespecting you..... The widening of the road could be compared to the time when the existing road was created. We could then go to the time the first hut was erected in LM and etc, etc, etc. If the road or LM had never been created then there could be no road, houses or cars or many, many fewer people. If we truly wanted to have the biodiversity be the most important thing, then we need to say that humans should have never set forth on the earth. If humans have a place in the world, then all the crosses on the road the indicate they were killed would seem to mean that if we could make things safer for travel to a place we all consider a "small slice of heaven" would be a good thing. | ------------------Re: Videos complete

Your welcome Ken. I could have edited it.....I didn't I could have added music.....I didn't I could have not made it.....I did If you put it on .50 speed here is one choice of music for the ride

Loving Yoyo as I do and this suite in particular, I'm still glad you didn't put music to your drive, Daniel. It is totally cool as is ... music, in this case, would be, for me, a distraction from that well-travelled, sometimes-loved drive. | ------------------Re: Videos complete

I think the music and the road go very well together. | ------------------Re: Videos complete

Daniel, the ride was terrific....I almost phoned the airline. What I did miss was the feel of the heat of the day.... | ------------------Re: Videos complete

A moment in time, preserved (here's hoping) forever. Good idea, Daniel! If someone didn’t take the time to film the famous San Francisco street car movie in 1900, we wouldn’t know what that was like either.

Thanks for the video Daniel. Although intended as a documentary, it transported me back to the lush, fragrant magic of the area that you are so fortunate to call home. | ------------------
