Hurricane

When the fishermen take their boats out of the water and put them in the Jardin, then I would worry. | ------------------Re: Hurricane

I watched them move them this afternoon. No parakeets flying around, no birds to be seen | ------------------Re: Hurricane

Personally, looking at the satellite I don't see it. There is no spin like a hurricane. There is a high tide tomorrow at 11:30, perhaps that is part of the reason for moving the boats. I could be wrong (often am) and I am preparing but I will be surprised if it turns out to be much more than rain with some fairly good wind gust. https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/epac/h5-loop-ir2.html | ------------------Re: Hurricane

I was going to wait to post this until after the storm has passed, but that would be too safe for my taste. I have noticed for a while now that NOAA has leaned toward the side of max drama. It's also known as a captured agency. Captured by who? By advertising dollars. An imaginary scenario given this present weather event. Regular Meteorologist reports "chances of becoming a hurricane are slim" Boss (who is captured) Close enough, report it as a hurricane. Why? What brings more eyeballs, a tropical storm or a hurricane? The more dramatic "fear" the more money. This may turn out to be a hurricane (over 39 mph winds) but I think my point still stands, not only on weather but across the news reporting spectrum. Get the widow on the set, we need dirty laundry. It is sad (and dangerous) to realize just how skeptical (mistrusting) I have become. | ------------------Re: Hurricane

I must be missing something Daniel. NOAA has always been funded by the government- where do advertising dollars come into the picture? | ------------------Re: Hurricane

They come into the picture by the advertisers using dollars to get their person in charge. News agency's take NOAA data as their source. Their NOAA person makes sure to get the most drama/fear/interest out of any given situation. | ------------------Re: Hurricane

Hey Daniel, I may be just a grumpy old man but but your point is well taken. Remember, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that they aren't out to get you (and your money). Also, thanks for the starkly, graphic pics of the calm before... | ------------------No boats, tables or umbrellas

Hurricane Lorena has passed us now. A fair bit of wind for a few hours. Torrents of rain...still falling. Power went out late pm last night.Still out at 10:15. Using a generator. Our road above the elementary school is a mess. Assume so are the other dirt roads. Too wet to venture out and check for other damage. | ------------------Re: Hurricane
